My grandparents Harry and Polly Firmin raised their family at their Parihauhau Road farm. There were 8 children so fallow deer and wild pigs were the main diet of the times, with sheep being too expensive to eat.

All of my Uncles and Aunties were crack shots and most had a dog that could catch a pig. From a young age we were encouraged by our father to hunt game for our family meals and this became a passion which took up most of our spare time.

I still have a pack of dogs and thus keep the proverbial wolf from the door. My three brothers all hunt, deer or pigs, and Claire’s brothers have done their share of hunting in the King Country area.

Wanganui Hunting

Due to our extensive local knowledge, we are able to provide you with real life hunting experiences in real New Zealand conditions, guided by real New Zealanders who live on the land.

There is nothing contrived about these hunts, the animals are all free range and the terrain can certainly be rugged.

Guides

All guides are the property owners, they know the country like the back of their hand, and they have limited outside hunting to allow the animals to ‘breed up’ – even first time hunters can be assured of seeing game.

All our hunting areas are located within one hour’s drive from Wanganui. We can arrange accommodation based in your requirements and if needed, safe storage for your hunting equipment.

Trophy Fallow Buck

One of our hunting properties has trophy heads available during the months of March, April and May. These particular animals are Hungarian Fallow and the breed are not widespread in New Zealand. Many heads over 200 Douglas Score have been taken in this valley. All hunts are able to be video taped or photographed and Douglas Scores taken on request.

Meat Processing

All animals can be processed to your requirements:

• Salami
• Sausages
• Steaks
• Rolled seasoned shoulders

The meat will be age processed and then blast frozen and sent anywhere within New Zealand.
